Eagle Landing Park proposed native plant list.
The following is a proposed “approved” list of over 120 native plant species that would be desirable to have in Eagle Landing Park. Some, such as sword fern, should have several thousand plants of the species while some, such as Fairy slipper, might only have ten or twenty specimens. Each plant has its place—sun or shade, upland or wetland—but any plant on this list would be expected to have been found in a landscape such as Eagle Landing Park prior to 1850. (This list is of vascular plants and doesn’t include mosses, lichens, or mushrooms.) Those with asterisks are already present in the park. There are hundreds more native species that might have been found in the park before colonization, but the list below is a place to start. All these relatively common species should be non-controversial and mostly easy to obtain or propagate. This list could be used as part of an overall Vegetation Management Plan for Eagle Landing Park.
